The practical answer

Identify each fitting by its function, then check the selected item's finish, movement and attachment. Hardware colour, weight or a familiar shape does not establish metal composition, durability, brand identity or performance. Record what was observed and what the supplier still needs to confirm.

Zips: compare the opening and travel

Ask for a photograph with the zip fully open and closed. Check the usable opening, slider movement, end stops and the lining near the teeth. Record any snagging on the sample without forcing the closure. A zip-top label alone does not show whether your intended contents can pass through.

Turn locks, frames and magnetic tabs

Confirm how the fastening aligns and opens in normal use. Check clearance for fingers, any inner flap and whether the frame changes the usable opening. Ask for the specific construction rather than inferring it from the front ornament. A familiar decorative shape may cover a different fastening underneath.

Chains and detachable clips

Request chain or strap drop in each supported configuration, plus photographs of attachment rings and clips. Check whether the strap detaches and whether all shown components are included. Do not estimate carrying position from chain length alone or invent a load rating from appearance.

Buckles, adjusters and feet

Record the available strap adjustment range and how the selected setting is secured. Check exposed edges and the attachment of base feet on the sample. Ask the supplier how to handle the item; an adjustment feature does not establish that it can carry a particular load safely.

Finish and composition are separate questions

Use the supplier's finish description and request close-ups in consistent light. Gold-tone and silver-tone describe appearance; they do not establish precious-metal content or a plating specification. If corrosion resistance or another performance claim matters, request evidence for that exact fitting.

Put the accepted fittings in the quote

Identify the hardware colour and closure type alongside the SKU, size and photographs. List every included chain, strap or detachable accessory. Preserve the accepted sample record for dispatch and delivery checks, and agree how any differences should be reported before ordering.
