Start with what you carry
Lay out the things that need to come with you: your phone, wallet, keys and any larger items. Measure the largest item. A bag’s exterior width alone cannot tell you whether it will fit through the opening.
Read width, height and depth together
Width describes the horizontal span, height the body from base to opening, and depth the space from front to back. A narrow opening, sloping sides or divided lining can reduce usable capacity. Ask for interior and opening measurements when fit matters.
Check the way it sits
Handle drop is the distance from the top of the handle to the bag opening. Strap drop affects where a shoulder or crossbody bag rests. Confirm whether measurements refer to the shortest or longest setting, and compare them with a bag you already use.
Make a simple scale reference
Mark the stated width and height on paper, then fold a strip to represent depth. This helps visualise proportions, but does not prove capacity or comfort. Request a scale photograph and confirm dimensions before ordering.
